Project Pet receives $24,660 adoption retention grant from Petsmart charities! Recently, PetSmart Charities awarded Project Pet a grant in the amount of $24,660 as part of their Leader of the Pack grant program. Leader of the Pack grants are given to organizations that propose innovative programs benefiting companion animals. This grant, dubbed the Project Pet Retention Initiative, is aimed at combating owner relinquishment of pets by improving the likelihood of successful adoptions through training and follow-up. Project Pet will provide shelter dogs in its care with substantial training before and after the adoption takes place. Dogs older than 16 weeks will benefit by attending three group training sessions focused on basic obedience and manners and an additional in-home training session post-adoption for particularly challenging or hard to place canine companions. Project Pet's feline friends will benefit by providing adopters with valuable educational and behavioral resources as well as better personality profiles of the cats ready for adoption. A key component of the Retention Initiative provides for a 12-month post-adoption follow-up program in order to assess the status of the pet in the home and improve upon the adoption program in general. Project Pet now offers 30-days of free pet insurance after adoptions!!
